How to Save on Your Wedding in Singapore
The biggest savings come from the biggest line, the banquet. Trimming the guest count, choosing an off-peak date, picking a heartland or restaurant venue over a five-star hotel, and comparing nett (not '++') prices move your total far more than cutting small items. A civil solemnisation-only celebration keeps the legal cost to the S$42 ROM fee.
Saving on a wedding is less about clipping coupons and more about a few structural decisions made early. Because the banquet is 40–55% of a typical budget, the choices around it — how many people, which venue, which date — dwarf everything else. This guide is about spending less without being made to feel you’re settling. Figures here are approximate third-party ranges for 2026 unless marked official.
Pull the biggest lever first: guest count
The banquet scales with heads. On the cost breakdown, a 20-table mid-range banquet is roughly S$38,000; cut it to 15 tables and you save the better part of S$10,000 in one decision — more than you’d claw back from favours, cars and stationery combined. Start the guest list honestly, and treat every extra table as a real line in the budget.
Choose the date for value, not just luck
Peak-season weekends and auspicious dates (often chosen from the Chinese almanac) are the most in-demand and the most expensive. An off-peak date, a Friday, a Sunday or a lunch reception is frequently cheaper and easier to book. If an auspicious date matters to your families, weigh the premium with eyes open — it is a real cost, not a rounding error.
Match the venue tier to your budget
Venue tier is a structural saving, not a compromise on love:

Per-table ranges by tier (approximate, 2026). Dropping a tier on 20 tables saves tens of thousands. Source: Vows.sg / DiveDeals.sg.
- Heartland restaurants / community venues: about S$700 – S$1,200 per table.
- Mid-range hotels: about S$1,400 – S$2,500 per table.
- Five-star hotels: about S$2,200 – S$3,500+ per table.
Dropping one tier on a 20-table wedding can save tens of thousands of dollars. The venue types and who they suit are in our venue guides.
Never compare “++” against nett
A venue quoting S$1,500++ is really charging about S$1,800 nett once the 10% service charge and 9% GST are added. If you compare one venue’s “++” price against another’s nett price, you’ll pick wrong. Ask every venue for the nett per-table figure and compare like with like. This single habit prevents a roughly 20% surprise.
Consider the solemnisation-only route
You are fully, legally married the moment a licensed solemniser completes the ceremony — a banquet is optional. A civil solemnisation-only celebration (at a Registry site or a small venue with a few guests) keeps the legal cost to the S$42 ROM fee (S$380 if both are foreigners). Muslim couples register instead through ROMM (application fee S$39, or S$128 if both are foreigners). Many couples solemnise first, then hold a larger celebration later, or not at all. See the ROM process.
Smaller savings that still add up
Once the big three (guests, venue, date) are set, these help at the margins:
- Compare bundled vs separate photo/video quotes — a bundle isn’t automatically cheaper once hours, crew and deliverables differ.
- Rent the gown and suit instead of buying.
- Digital invitations for most guests, printed cards only for elders.
- Set a strict favour budget, or skip favours if they don’t matter to you.
- Keep a 10% contingency so overtime and last-minute flowers don’t blow the plan.
